The Riverbend chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Minnesota meets the third Saturday of each month in New Ulm at 9:00 a.m - contact Monica Buboltz for location, as it is subject to change. The meetings last approximately two hours.
This is a small but active chapter; many of the members are from various small towns in the surrounding area.
For many years this chapter hosted the only statewide fundraiser of the NFB of Minnesota in New Ulm. On the local level they have donated twin vision books to various public and private school libraries, and hosted a senior seminar. Members also take turns giving educational talks to various schools and civic groups throughout the area. The chapter has also held combined fundraising and educational events at Pizza Hut and Applebee’s, as well as other community settings.
They have worked together with area Lions clubs and State services for the Blind to establish a low vision center in the New Ulm public library basement. This is in order to reach out to those who are losing their sight and provide education, support and advocacy. We work to assist individuals in obtaining the many options that are available to them.
If you would like more information about our chapter or would like to talk to one of our members, please feel free to contact the chapter President, Monica Buboltz, at 507-354-5680 or e-mail riverwalk@newulmtel.net .
